Millimetrik is back. Now Open Source
In March 2014 we, Progress Engine, published release of our product — mobile app Millimetric (iOS, Android) — mobile client for Yandex Metrika. We were very pleased that all the users have welcomed us graciously and she was in demand — we have received warm feedback and thank you letters. Moreover, colleagues from Yandex named our design the most beautiful mobile client for their service.
We had Napoleonic plans — we were planning to make a version for tablets, hours, and a little coffee :) had a bunch of ideas we've collected and carefully recorded to meet all the tastes of our users.
But after some time we filled up the current problems and we neglected the development of the project, focused on commercial projects that gave us real money. Inertia continued to carry the project to the thumb, but the changes in versions of mobile operating systems, as well as in the specifications of the devices influenced the work of some functions — and we rained down reports with requests to fix some minor bugs. Everything is neatly folded for later, because "it's the business and everything will be just super, and then go back to the project."
At a conference held by Yandex, I chatted with the guys who were involved in service Metrics. We have a mutual interest — they receive the project yourself pool of mobile projects and we will monetize the history and make of free app interesting commercial project. But I Yandex we never agreed — the changed vector of negotiations, most likely associated with internal changes within the company. After thinking a bit we decided the project is finally close to what I'm wrote on facebook.
The project went into archive. Several months he remained, not giving anyone benefit, and I regularly received letters, "Guys, thank you — it's cool, but pliz add features and bugs wouldn". I was told that the project is collapsed, the support will generally "go away" :)
But, you know, I have decided that it is wrong. As long as the project demanded by the people, even if you have no strength to deal with them — it needs to continue to evolve. And now I want to make it Open Source. We are ready to review all your bugfixes and improvements, to help you as much if you, colleagues, will be interesting to continue the work we started. I hope that the withdrawal of the application in the open access will give us new forces to work on them.
The rest of the week we will publish the source code to the public. Currently solve two major problems:
1 — cleanup code from old artifacts (keys from the API, and so on) and slight code cleanup
2 — work out the issues with the license. Most likely it will be a slightly modified license L-GPL.
As I promised in the title — the project is coming out opencores, links below (not yet working, will write separately once they're publicly available).
