Search engine YossarianLives looks for metaphors
As a rule, search on the Internet aimed at obtaining some factual information — as is done in universal Google or Yandex, or in a number of specialized search engines: restaurants, tickets, coupons, torrent, etc.
/ > This year the company YossarianLives intends to launch a search engine "metaphors" (metaphorical search engine), having a sponsor Deutsche Bank and the Fund SeedCamp. Explain how it works will be difficult, because on the website just yet, you can leave your email to receive an invitation. The creators, among which there are, apparently, our compatriot Katia Shutova 28 years, will present their project in the following way:
says J. Paul Neely (J Paul Neeley), the CEO of YossarianLives.
How the system works, its creators did not disclose, but note that they are not "directly teach" her metaphors by asking pre-selected matching, and the use of statistical natural-language technology (statistical natural-language processing techniques), which is similar to that used in Google. These methods find correspondence between words, believing close concepts such as "dog" and "bone", while YossarianLives considers close to not only them, but "dog" and "Ironing Board" (ironing board). In other words, the system finds the concepts that are far apart for some properties, but they still have something conceptually in common.
Researcher in the field of mathematical linguistics from Oxford with a Blance Phil (Phil Blunsom), evaluated at the request of the reviewers NewScientist idea of a search engine, called skeptical: "the Definition of metaphor is very complex task in itself... and finding correspondences is a very difficult task, the accuracy of determination which is impressive little hope". Two opinions expressed are the reviewers NewScientist: they tested the search engine by typing the word "science" and got the result as a photo of the happy couple, which must identify the notion of "chemistry" (in the sense of "chemistry" of love, the beginning of a relationship, releases oxytocin, etc.). Immediately arose the idea that concepts were chosen just by chance that almost always looks like a paradoxical and striking manifestation of creativity, which, in fact, "locked up" the engine, but, nevertheless, Neely dismissed the idea.
It remains to note that the unusual search system was named after the main character of the novel by American writer Joseph Heller's "catch-22" captain Yossarian.

We create a search engine that generates metaphors. Modern search engines return results that are close to your request, which may be useful if you are looking for what the world already knows. But if you are on the border of knowledge is useless. Then metaphors become really need it.
